Athens Getaway

A few weeks ago, we went to Athens in Southwest Ohio. It is a nice, kind of hippie town in the foothills of the Appalachians.

Of course, we found a little diner to enjoy pancakes at, a mainstay of all our vacations.

One afternoon, we drove the short distance to visit West Virginia, a new state for both Malcolm and I. While there, we stumbled upon the Mothman Museum, and a myth that has changed our lives forever.

On a tour of Ohio University.

The main purpose of this trip was to go to a Jonathan Richman concert, a musician that Chris has enjoyed for a long time (if you saw "Something About Mary," he's the guy singing from up in a tree). We had arranged for a friend of ours who goes to OU to babysit that night, but she was unable to at the last minute, so Malcolm ended up coming with us, and we all had a really great time.

We found some old petroglyphs on the way home, and enjoyed a nice hike. A dog from a neighboring farm joined us as well, which was alarming at first, but after leading us around for 20 minutes, became a source of comfort.
